About

Seoul National University Research Institute of Human Ecology (RIHE)
aims to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of people by approaching the quality of life of Koreans scientifically.

We intend to operate a system to support academic contributions of life science researchers and apply these academic achievements to real life, to educational contributions that reflect research results in education, and to nurture future generations in this field. On the other hand, we are planning to develop the convergence of medical, food, consumption, children's families, and housing, which are the main areas of life, to present creative human life at the forefront.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES

RIHE plays a leading role in carrying out systematic and scientific research on human life,
and in the practical application of its achievements to education, policy, and industry.
In particular, RIHE sets up a research area called Well-being Enhancement (WE), Responsible Practices (RP), and Sustainable Life (SL) to identify and solve problems.

  1. vision-01
    First,

to cope with the changing living conditions according to
social changes covering various living areas, including consumption life,
child development, and family life, medical life,
and state life, RIHE has explored, conducted research,
and accumulated and shared the results of its research.

  2. vision-02
    Second,

reflecting the multidisciplinary characteristics of Human Ecology,
RIHE operates five research centers (Retirement Design Support Center,
Multicultural Life Education Center, Consumer Trend Analysis Center,
Fashion Technology Center, Life & Retail Center) under its core business division
to provide a diverse and creative approach to improve the quality of life,
and supports research centers to share research results and create synergies.

  3. vision-03
    Third,

    as a practical discipline,
we support various industry-academic cooperation studies
and the goal is to apply the research results to society and to reclaim them.
In most cases, industry-academic cooperation research requires
a problem-based approach, from basic research to the development
of a healthy living culture, to applied research to develop products
that reflect consumer demand, various researches are being conducted.

  4. vision-04
    Fourth,

based on RIHE’s philosophy, which focuses on translational research,
we actively share our research achievements with residents
by conducting various study policies and operating a program of lectures
in cooperation with local governments. Besides, the research scientists commissioned
and operated the Gwanak-gu Health Family Support Center in 2005,
the Gwanak-gu Multicultural Family Support Center in 2010,
and the Geumcheon-gu Child Food Support Center in 2011.
In 2011, the Parent Policy Research Center has been operated
with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science.
